Job Description

The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to support the Autonomous Physics Group in Stillwater, OK. The Autonomous Physics Group develops quantifiable results on the science of autonomy, and expands autonomous applications to areas in which embodiment physics is a primary challenge.

The candidate will support active debris perception, tracking, and mitigation efforts. Primary responsibility focus of this position will include hypersonic impact modeling, design, and experimental results interpretation, mechanical design of deployable collectors, and in orbit relative maneuvering perception and control. This position prioritizes engineering design and scientific discovery at levels that support the individual developing an international reputation for pioneering work in solving the problem of orbital debris. The candidate will prepare regular reports for funding agencies along with research manuscripts for publications. Additional responsibilities include project management, proposal writing, and training/supervising graduate and undergraduate students.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. / Ed.D. in Aerospace, mechanical, or related engineering discipline

Experience with mechanical design of materials and structures

Must be able to lift over 10lbs

Preferred Qualifications:

Mechanical and mechanism design; spacecraft mechanics; hypersonics; orbital debris; metamaterials
